I just got a 2000 jeep cherokee sport and im trying to install a XM-2002gtr Amp. What do i need for wires?
I just got a 2000 jeep cherokeee sport and i bought a xm-2002gtr amp for it but i have no clue what i need to install it. I want to do it myself and all i need to know is what wires do i need to hook it up to two speakers i have in the back and a subwoofer..Thanks
From personal experience, I would highly highly recommend that you find a friend that has actually done installing for a profession before you decide to try this by yourself. If you have never done it before, there are an absolute ton of mistakes that can happen while installing an Amp. Once you see it done correctly once or twice, you will be good to go from then on and you can do it by yourself on pretty much any car you can get apart. I installed for 6 years and have watched many mechanically enlightened people completely mess this entire installation up. If you find a cool installer that you trust locally to do a good job, he/she might let you watch what they're doing so you can learn.
Regardless, it's good to get the wires beforehand. You'll need: Power wire kit (comes with minimun of power wire, ground wire, remote wire, and connections for the ends of these wires), RCAs (2 Channel since that's the Amp you purchased). If you have a factory stereo, you'll need a line-out converter to tie into your speaker wires, thereby allowing you to use the RCAs with the factory stereo. Last you'll need speaker wire. I wouldn't recommend hooking up one pair of speakers to an Amplifier. A two channel can be perfect depending on the one sub you have. The detail required to explain how to hook a 2 channel amp up to various subs is too lengthy to fit into this column, but that absolutely at least has to be looked at by a professional. For brands, I would highly recommend a Kicker power wire kit and Monster Cable RCAs. Some kicker power wire kits come with the RCAs as well. Well worth the money over any walmart garbage.
