Pioneer is a good, respectable company that's been around for a long time. Granted, they aren't the best subs, but they certainly aren't the worst. When it comes to a decent sub setup, the enclosure is half of the equation. You could have $1000 sub in a crappy box with the wrong volume size and you could have a $20 sub in a good box with the proper volume size. The $20 sub will sound better.

As for your amp, I agree. Legacy is cheap crap. I wouldn't use one if someone gave it to me for free. Well, maybe for a paper weight or boat anchor...no offense. That 4000W rating, that's if your car is hit by lightning while the stereo is on. Spend the money and get a good reputable brand. Sounds like you don't have a lot of money to spend, so anything "mainstream" (like sony, pioneer, fosgate) found at circuit city, Fry's, etc should do the job. To keep things simple, you want to pay attention to WRMS or RMS ratings for power.

If this is your first "system", don't feel bad. Most of us started with a crappy system. Hell, mine was 2 10' Pyles with an Audiovox amp. After that I got the good stuff.. Phoenix Gold, JL, Ppi, Boston Acoustics, Orion.
