my four port USB adapter won't work?
/I bought a four port USB adapter and only 2 of the four only work when I plug in a device it says it's an unknown device and cannot recognize through those slots how do I fix this? I tried to go into device manager and I still have no clue what I am doing I'm still a bit noobish on terms of advanced controls such as device manager can someone please tell me how to fix this on using a Windows Vista Toshiba laptop.
If you have a non-powered USB hub, it is possible that the USB hub cannot deliver enough power to each device. USB ports can only provide 5v @ 500ma each, so to use a USB hub plugged into a single port and split that between 4 devices means that each device is only getting 5v @ 125ma. This usually enough for low power devices like mice, keyboards, and USB flash drives.
If you have devices that require high power, such as an external hard drive, mp3 player, or cell phone, it is likely the hub cannot deliver enough power.
There are two solutions to this.
1) Move your low power devices permanently over to the hub, and plug your high power devices directly into the computer's remaining USB ports.
2) Buy a powered USB hub. These hubs have a power adapter that provides the extra juice to get high powered devices going.
