Can battery acid build up on the posts mess with your electrical system?
I had 2 Amps, a cap and sub installed on my 05 titan. 900 watts rms, 50w x 4 rms, 2.0 farad cap. The other morning my deck was flickering on and off. There is a lot of alternator whine a start up when music at low volume. This morning the truck wouldn't start and when it did the gauges bugged out then finally reset. The battery is OEM and there was some acid buildup on the posts especially the + side. Does that buildup suggest a weakened battery or does it somehow mess with the alternator ability to recharge the battery effectively? Would it also make the service engine soon light come on? The truck just got a service done this weekend and there is only 68,000 miles on it. I think either the shop that installed the system seriously messed up or it's as simple as the batttery posts need cleaning or needs to be replaced. And last they installed 3 regular 40 amp car fuses inline between the battery and cap, wrapped in electrical tape exposed to the engine. Looked sloppy to me. HELP!!
It would have been quicker to clean the corrosion off the battery than to type up that description. The corrosion can act as an insulator between the cable terminal and the battery not letting enough current through to run the starter. Acid residue can also conduct current from the battery post to to the plate the battery sits on and drain the battery. It is important to keep batteries clean. Corrosion is a result of acid and metal. Always wear safety goggles when working with batteries and have water and baking soda nearby.
