What should I expect in a good Subwoofer/Amp set up for under $300?
I know nothing about car audio, so any information would be grateful. I DON'T want an over powered windshield cracking system. But more of good quality sound system that still hits fairly hard.
What range of wattage in the speakers and wattage in the amplifier should I be looking for? Also, If I weeerree to search craigslist, what are some things I should search for.
You want to spend no less than $100 Per woofer for anything with decent sound quality. JL audio has some great subs with excellent quality. I like Infinity as well. They are a great mix of power and crisp quality sound. They usually run $150 or more though. I recomend 10" as the base will be clean and not overpowering. Your amp on the other hand should be high quality, that's where the sound is really made. 500W RMS. no less for a good system. Alpine, JBL, Rockford, MTX all make some good Amps. I have recently also become a big fan of Hifonics amps. They have great sound quality and power for the price.
Don't underestimate the effects of a good sub enclosure on the sound quality either. $300 might get you a decent amp and a used box...maybe.
