Is it bad to slide foward while in reverse?
My car is a good 40ish degree angle uphill and to get out, I have to reverse up the hill. Naturally the car slides forward sometimes a few feet. It seems like that's ok considering nothing seems to happen with the car (no sounds, nothing irregular, etc.)
haha I'm sorry, my driveway is a good 40 degrees...=]
John D:
haha you're good! Yes I have a 2004 Ford Explorer 4x4.
But from everything you said, I assume it's fine if my car does that then...?
Is it an automatic or a manual gearbox? In a manual, it means you aren't bringing the clutch up to enough of a biting point for the friction between the clutch plates to hold the car in position when you release the brake. this takes considerable practice. If the car is an automatic, the same thing is happening but without your control and there is nothing you can do about it. Just make sure you leave room in front of the car, or place blocks in front of the from wheels to stop the car from rolling downhill.
Oh, and a slope of 40ish degrees would be pretty close to 1 in 1. That's steeper than a typical house stairs. Would i be right to take it that you have a hefty four wheel drive car?
