Car central locking and cabin light do not work unless the key is in the ignition and turned ON to last click.
I've got a 2000 model Nissan Skyline. The interior electrics i.e. central locking, cabin lights, clock and odometer A-B distances; do not work unless I've got the key in the ignition and turned to the last click just before start. I suspect it has something to do with a connection to the ignition which may have been bypassed. Was like that when I bought the car second hand. I imagine that all the above work off back up "standby" power when the ignition is not turned on. As a result of this my clock and odo distance A-B resets each time I turn the ignition off. The drivers door still opens with the key, but the other doors don't open unless the key is turned on in the ignition. Please Help if you know anything about car electrics.
Check all of your fuses. The clock and other functions resetting with the loss of power indicates the the fuse supplying the stand-by circuitry is open. This fuse may also be responsible for the engine control computer memory. As you drive it learns how to run the engine better. This data is lost when the battery is disconnected and has to be relearned at the expense of fuel economy.
There is at least 1 fuse block in your car. More likely there are 2, one under the dash and one under the hood near the battery.
One other thing to worry about. Is the radio the original factory unit or an after market type? Be suspicious of the after market type because it may not have been installed correctly. If it is the OEM radio there should be no problem.
