CB question. i have a 40 channel cobra that is in my 92 gmc vandura. my problem is that i cant get signal?
every thing is on. when i have it on a channel like 19 which is what drivers use around here. i don't get the "static" or hear anyone. also no one can hear me. one of the drivers i work with ( i'm a mechanic ) told me it is probably the antenna, the stock one is about 6"- 8" long. so i got a cb antenna kit and installed it onto my mirror bracket. nothing happened. i am trying to figure out what could be the problem oh and the mic does work. and so does the speaker on the cb...well at least the speaker works when you have the weather band on. any help would be great
i already installed a antenna from a truck parts store that is about 3 ft.
I would first check your coax. Make sure there isnt a kink or tear anywhere along the coax. Second, make sure that the coax is secured on the connector on the cb and the connecter on the antenna base if the antenna has one. Fourth, you need to check your SWR's(Standing Wave Ratio). This is the measurement of reflected power. If your SWR is too high, it can greatly affect signals coming in and going out. If you can not do this, find a local CB shop or see if a local truck stop has a shop inside.
Another thing is antenna length can be a factor. A 3 foot antenna will not get out very far. Compare a 3 foot antenna to a 6 foot whip and you will see the difference.
