I'm thinking of converting my diesel to vegetable oil. Should I use a kit, or homebrew it?
I drive a 1991 Jetta GLI EcoDiesel that I'm considering converting to run straight vegetable oil. I have a source for oil, and feel confident that the filtering and storage of the fuel won't be an issue. But I'm interested in the best way to do the conversion. I know there are kits available from Greasel, Greasecar and others. They're pricey, but complete. I also know that I can buy the tanks, tubing, valves, switches, heat exchangers and so on as individual pieces. What's my best option? I'd especially love to hear from anyone who has done this modification before.

I wrote this article a few years ago - http://www.geocities.com/lostnprofound/vegoil.htm - Tony had converted his Golf to run on vegetable oil with just a homebrew he made out of salvaged parts - I talked to him after the article was publish and he found he had little problem with running it even on oil with the antifoaming agent in it - Tony was using biodiesel@sympatico.ca the last time I spoke with him 3 years ago, and he's quite happy to talk to people who want to convert.
