question about my car and Temp. Sensor/dial?
i was driving the other day, and my car slipped on ice and went over a curb(this did snap my bumper out of place if that helps any). i noticed the next time i turned my car on that the dial showing engine temp doesn't go up or down when i start the car, it goes up to the 100 line, but never higher. and i know for a fact that it is above 100 degrees because it is usually about 150-180.
what could be a guess at the problem without going to a mechanic?
BTW, there is No warning light or anything about any problem on my dash, but i find it weird that its not going up
Car:
2001 Pontiac Grand Am Gt
First off don't confuse a temp sensor with a temp sender.
a temp sensor takes info and relays it to the ecm ( computer ) to help control emission functions.
A temp sender gives info to gauge on the dash.
It is always good to start with the easiest / cheapest fixes.
My first thought would be to find the temp sender and check to see if the connection has been breached due to your accident.
Seems the wire connector may simply have been loosened.
If that is not the problem , damage may have occurred to the sender or gauge , the gauge being the most expensive and biggest pain in the butt to replace.
