Hooking up an old dvd surround system to a new hd tv?
I just moved into my new house and I want to go buy a new HD tv, but before that I have a couple of questions. I have a pioneer surround sound system I am not sure the model but it has a 5 dvd disc changer but it is a older system so it doesn't have HDMI connections on it. I already have a Sony Playstation 3, and I am going to get Dish Network to hook up HD service. Now my question is will I be able to use my old surround sound system, if I hook everything up using HDMI cables I will not have surround sound through my old system. Can I hook just picture on my playstation 3 blu ray player and satellite and use other cables to hook up sound though the surround sound system. I really like my surround sound system so I don't want to go out and buy another one. Any Help will be great Thanks
You can. Most devices that have HDMI also have separate audio outputs - usually optical and RCA. You can connect the HDMI cables from your PS3 and DN box to your TV, then run the audio to the surround system. Alternatively, most TVs have an audio output these days as well. So you could also connect the HDMI cables from your PS3 and DN box to your TV (sending the audio to the TV), then run the audio cable from your TV to your surround.
