freelanders were plagued with horrible problems. one of them was that the car would get stuck into front wheel drive, and most owners never even noticed.
range rover is a bit better, but the Range Rover Sport would be best because it combines the off road ability of a range rover with the driving dynamics of... well, it's not like a sports car. that would be more like the porsche cayenne or BMW x5. but, i would say it drives like a semi-sporty sedan, which isn't too bad. not only that, but it comes from the ford era of land rover, which means it was well made.

if you're going to get a range rover, you'll want a current gen model. it was also developed under the ford era, and is known as the most capable off road vehicle of the time. also one of the most luxurious.
