Why won't my speakers work on my '85 Cadillac Seville hardtop?
My friend recently gave me a 1985 Cadillac Seville and I tried turning the cassette player on, but all that happened was the antenna came up. I can't get a tape to play or the radio to work. I just recently bought a new in dash stereo and took the old one out. After putting the Dash Install Kit in and connecting the wires through the required harness I plugged it into my stereo and it didn't work. It got power, but there is no sound. Is there some switch I need?
P.S. I checked with a volt meter and a lot of accessories on the dash don't have power coming to them. We checked all the fuses and they are all fine. Any help is welcome.
If your getting power to the radio, then the fuse is obviously fine. There is no other fuse that controls JUST the speakers. However, im not sure about this car, but many cars have separate Amps in between the in dash head and the speakers (usually under one of the seats or something. If the Amp is burnt out, no matter what head you put into the dash, the signal will never get to the speakers. Make sure the speakers are hooked into the radio correctly and then check for any bad wiring around the amp or the amp itself. If the car has no amp, maybe try testing the head outside the car with one separate speaker and a 12v power source
