How do I hardwire LED bars to my Subaru Outback?
I have a 2005 Subaru Outback and I want to put LED lights above the feet under the dashboard. I bought two 8 inch led Bars that are attached to a 12v cigarette plug. The box says that they can be optionally hardwired but gives no instructions. My friend told me I could easily use fuse taps to wire the lights the fuse panel to the left of my steering wheel but I have no clue how to actually attach the wires to the car. I bought fuse taps from Radio Shack and I believe they are the wrong size. Now I am back at square one again and have no idea how to hardwire these LED bars.
The fusebox in your Ourback is located under the dash to the left of the steering column. The accessory outlet (cigarette lighter) fuse is found in the number 4 slot.
The fuse tap you need should be a 2 piece unit with a piece of metal that slides over the fuse terminal and has a connector on the opposite end for an insulated "quick disconnect". They are sized for wire gauges from 22 up to 10. Like the ones here at the bottom of the page:

Make sure the ignition is in the OFF position. Remove the fuse. Slide the slotted end of the fuse tap onto the load side of the fuse. Replace the fuse. Crimp the positive wire from your LED bar into the insulated terminal. Connect the terminal to the exposed end of the fuse tap (they're made to fit together). Connect the negative wire from your LED bar to a bare metallic surface.
