Power issues with Dell Inspiron 1150...?
The computer will not power up. With no adapter connected, pressing the power button results in the power and battery LEDs briefly flashing green and then reverting to a blinking orange for about 10 seconds before stopping completely. Pressing and holding the power button and pressing both the function and power button keys and then releasing yield the same results.
With the power adapter connected only the green flash occurs and then nothing.
A chat session with Dell technical support resulted in a diagnosis of a Reed switch failure. They said I needed to have the motherboard replaced.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to a cheaper alternative? I have thought about trying to find a replacement motherboard on Ebay or simply trying to isolate the faulty component and finding a replacement. I am not sure how to go about doing either of these things though. I have also heard that it is very tough to find exact replacement for Dell parts. Any ideas would be appreciated.
i'm guessing this is not under warranty any more"?
i've found detailed instuctions both on dells site support.dell.com and others saying how to replace and take them apart but something like a motherboard you will likely need to send to dell.
if it is out of warranty i know they will still take it but charge a more expensive fee, you can find this via support.dell.com under warranty information there wioll be a link to out of warranty repair
