my landlord came to do some diy and damaged some of my things?
our landlord came to change the windows in our bedroom and downstairs, but the first day, a the light bulb on the lampshade was damaged, no problem i changed it, but the next day, i thought i had to replace it again, but the lampshade was broken. I just bought it a month ago, for £12.99 and the 2 lamp shades. Then my little toddler discovered that the landlord had taken his pyjama trousers off the radiator and was using them to wipe the windows down with white spirit. He wants to come again to do some painting in our bedroom, but i am pregnant and dont want to inhale any chemicals.
can i claim the money for the table lamp and pyjamas?
Your land lord has the right to come in and repair..Not to use your sons pj's or break lamps. As far as the painting you should work out a time when you can be out of the home for him to do the painting. Offer to pay extra for a LOW VOC paint.
I wouldn't stew on this. Call him in the morning and tell him what damage he caused. See what he offers as restitution. I would be friendly and polite during the call.
"Mr. Landlord? I hate to call you with this but it seems we have a small issue with the work you did. You used my sons pj's by mistake to clean the spirit and I believe you inadvertently broke one of our lamps shades that we just bought in a set." Then hush and see what he says. Finish with "as you know I'm expecting and I'm a bit freaky about sleeping in a freshly painted room. Is it possible I can pay the difference for a low VOC paint and can we work out a time so I can be away for a good part of the day?
