97 Chevy Lumina Radio problems?
I just bought a 97 Chevy lumina, and the kid i bought it from installed a after market stereo (it works, it just stays on, and you have to turn it off/on yourself), and in the process messed up the switched 12V wire (it has something to do with a Anti Theft lockout), so i was wondering if there is any way of bypassing it, or if there is another place i can steal power from to make the radio turn on/off with the car
THANKS!
Yeah, the kid I bought the car from sold me the car for $300, He said it was on its death bed, i reconnected a vacuum line, and had a tranny flush done, and it runs/drives fine
run a wire from the ignition. This way it is only on when the car is on. Get a voltmeter to help you find the right wire. You can probably run it from the fuse box. There might be a place that says accesory on it.
Sounds like the dum a$$ didn't know what he was doing. It's been a few years but I think the switched wire you are refering to is the one that needs to go to the ignition. I think it will be yellow or red but don't take my word for it.
There will definetely be one that goes to constant power source. One that goes to a switched power source. and one that goes to ground. If you need help determining which color is which, post the colors you have on here and I can look at a cd player that I havee to figure out which is right.
