installing new head unit in 05 chevy trailblazer ext?
hey i have an 05 chevy trailblazer ext without the bose system in it,i just ordered a Kenwood KDC-138. i got the dash kit and the antenna adapter, but I'm wondering how to connect it to the factory wires... I was told I can get one that retains the door chimes and on-star, but I really don't care about them as I am on a tight budget. is there a cheap harness i can get from metra? i was looking at their products but their website didn't give enough description for my understanding.
dud ei just put one in my car and DONT buy the wire harness that keeps the bells. itst pointless and it got 150$ and you can get a regular one for 10$ to 20$. But to answer your question, you need a wire harness. there is certain ones for certain cars. make sure you get the one for your exact car or it wont work. and youll need lil wire crimps. Autozone or internet has wire harnesses. The wire harness snaps into existing wiring and changes the colors of wires for you so you can match colors to your new head unit. Some cars dont have a hot coming into radio from wire harness so you have to run a red 16 gauge wire from head unit to fuse box in care and slip the wire in with a small Amp fuse to give your stereo power. I had to do that in my car. whatever you do DON"T cut any of the existing wires in the car. you use the wire harness. Because if you mix up any of those wire and your car could catch on fire. so make sure you know how to do it. I did it wrong and blew up my circuit board in my car so i had a professional do it.
