Motion sensor light does not completely cut off current?
Two separate units behaved in the same way. The light automatically shuts off, but there is still a current running to the bulb that keeps the filament glowing very dimly; almost unnoticeable. Ground is good. Polarity is correct. Voltage was reading about 125 - 126 V (Cheap Radio Shack Voltage Tester).
Could I have ended up with 2 defective motion sensor lights?
They are Hampton Bay Motion Sensor Exterior Lantern from Home Depot (SKU # 248 593).
*This is not a feature of the unit to keep the bulb glowing very dimly.*
Forgot to mention voltage reading of 125 - 126 Volts was hot to neutral.
I have not measured hot to ground or neutral to ground yet
The motion sensor light's functions all work. Goes on and off automatically when set to it. Dusk-to-dawn settings function properly.
wow 6 years as an electrician and i have no idea, Mess with the settings and see what happens, it is possible that the motion sensor is bad.
the way to test this is to take it down and check to see if you have continuity between both sides of the switch when movement happens
TO do this I would wire up the motion sensor (assuming that its powered) and throw a peice or two of tape over the eye then test line and load sides of the switch ( eye is effectively a switch).
If it show that there is any continuity between the two when you have it blind then the unit is bad
