i need help buying an Amp and a subwoofer for my car?
i have a 2000 Mustang coupe, (not a gt, and it does not have the mock sound system)
i have already installed 4 6x8 3-way (whatever that means) pioneer speakers, and a sony CDXGT630UI CD receiver that has 6-channel preamp outputs. (you can look it up and read the specs)
what i need to know is what kind of amp and subwoofer i should buy. my friends tell me that i dont need double subs, and that one will do. should i do a 10in or a 12in. single or double? what kind? how much $? what amp should i get to power all these things? im not looking to spend a ton of money. i dont need something super super nice. just something decent, but not crappy.
Lil snoopy, you must like getting ripped off. My sub eats the W7 alive and asks for more. Orion HCCA for the win!!
First off you made a mistake by buying that stereo, avoid anything for car audio with the name sony associated with it. They make great home audio products but their car audio products suck, sub par at best. Now one can tell you what subs to go with since only you know what type of sounds you like. I will suggest that you go to a local audio shop and listen to as many subs as you possibly can. Then when you find a sub you like go to www.sonicelectronix.com and make the purchase. Sonicelectronix has some of the best prices around, local shops can not touch the prices and crutchfield only dreams they can match the prices. As for an amp for the sub or subs, you need to get a Mono Block Amp for the subs, they are made for subs. For the other speakers, look at the rms wattage of them and get decent amp for them as well, it will make them sound so much better than they do right now. That one would be a 4 Channel Amp, take 1 set of your speakers find out the rms wattage of them and divide that in half, each channel of the 4 channel amp will need to give that rms wattage. For the subs, you need to match the OHM load that you plan on running with the subs to the amp, you have to make sure that the amp is stable at the OHM load you plan on running. To make it easy for you make sure you get an amp that is 1 OHM stable. Then just make sure the rms wattage of the amp matches the rms wattage of the subs.
