whats the difference between a sealed box and ported box?
i was gonna buy some 3/4 mdf to make a nice box for a kicker cvr 12 sub and feed it about 100 watts. but i've never really heard a ported box play before, i know sealed sounds good cause my neighbor has a system and he has sealed boxes and it sounds so good the bass. and if i do end up going with sealed can anyone tell what size box should be good for it like i want that bass to be smooth and loud for the amout of power i'm going to feed it. what size cubic feet should i make it to so it could sound clean as hell!...thanks alot =]
If you are looking for clean bass then you should go with sealed. Ported will give you a little more output but you are not going to have as "tight" of bass.
If you are going to build it then I would suggest building a sealed enclosure. They are very forgiving unlike ported enclosures. If you do build a ported enclosure make sure you have all the correct dimensions before you build it. Also, make sure that you take your time and get each part built correctly. If you don't then you will risk damaging your sub at the worst or having it sound like a loud mess at the least.
Look up all of the information regarding the size of the enclosure in the manual. They will give you a size for pretty much anything you are looking for.
