Amp is overheating and dont know why?
I got a 1200 watt soundstorm amp monoblock http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17622_Sound+Storm+SSL+F1200M.html and it got overheated and I let it cool for about 3hrs and turned it back on and the protection light is still on. I already checked the fuses in both the amp and the power cable and they are both fine I even replaced the amp fuse just to make sure and the protections light is still on. The amp is powering a http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9236_Pioneer+Premier+TS-W2501D2.html which is rated 2500 watts I dont know if it is just to much power for the amp to give off. It wired with 12g speaker wire
you cant use 12g. wire for power connections. some ideas, check all of your leads to see if your have a bad connection. a possibility is that the 12g. melted some of the insulation and is now grounding out or it burned through to another wire and is giving a bad circuit. i have seen this happen when the power lead has melted through the insulation before and touches either the remote wire or the RCA leads (although it is bad practice to run power supply with signal wires, but it happens a lot with self installations). another idea check your ohms, are you running your subs at 4,2, or 1 ohms? make sure your amp is capable of 2 or 1 ohm stability. try disconnecting your power and remote leads for a couple minutes to let the amp clear. also you might try and get a smaller sub. it sounds like your your amp runs at 200 watts RMS when you have and 800 watt RMS sub. you can damage a sub by underpowering it and you can damage your amp as well. hope that helps
