My 1999 jetta vw is having problems. When i start car engine light comes on and all gears light up and when?
I start driving it seems like my car wont shift out of first or sometimes second if i am lucky. When driving rpms go up to a high rate and sometimes my car wont even drive and i have to pull over & restart my car... also if i didnt mention i have an automatic transmission whats wronggg? helppp
Well since you stated all of the illuminated drive options are lit up on the dash and you CEL is on, there is is fault in you TCM, (transmission control module), and it is now in limp mode.
One thing you can try though depending on your particular issue, it may not solve the problem.
Disconnect the Negative Battery Terminal and leave it disconnected for about 10 min.
Note if your vehicle requires a code for the radio, make sure you have it handy.
Reconnect the negative terminal after the 10 min. This should clear the DTC's stored. In other words the car should drive normal again.
If the issue happens again you need to have the computer read with a scan tool. Sometimes a momentary fault will cause the problem you are having, and sometimes it is the start of a $$$ journey.
