How to hook up my stereo?
I just bought a used Sony stereo to put in my 85 Porsche 944, and am a little confused on how to hook the thing up. on the faceplate of the stereo it says selectable sub-out, and cdx-gt100. All of the wires coming out the back are gathered into a plug type thing with 2white/black 2green/black 2 purple/black 2 grey/black 1 blue/white, a solid red wire, then there is a thicker black wire and a thicker yellow wire. There is also a blue wire with a weird end but i know this is power for a retractable antenna. On the car end ive got 2 pairs of brown wires that come from the same spot, a set of three wires; red with yellow strips, red with blue stripes and a brown wire. there is also a thin purple and two thick black wires with coax type ends. there is also a subwoofer in the car. Help from someone who has experience with putting a stereo in this car would be great. Ihave no experience with stereos btw.
the original stereo has a wire harness going into it and the Sony has one too - what you need is an adapter harness - one that converts your Porsche wires to match the universal aftermarket colours. Once you have this (try Crutchfields) you will have to join the wires, colour for colour from that harness to the ones coming out your sony. The thing to watch out for is the 4 speaker wires Green / Purple / White / Grey have negative and positive - marked by a black stripe in running the length of the wire - make sure you have these in the right positions or your stereo will sound terrible. Red Yellow and Black are power, key power and ground. Good luck
PS - if you use the twist and tape method to attach wires, make sure to use electrical tape only
