What do i need for my cars sound system?
I have a 2000 ford explorer with 4 pioneer 6x8 door speakers installed, 40w nominal 240w max.
I want to get at least 1 subwoofer with 1200 w max and 250w nominal (RMS)
Do i need to get 2 Amps? one for door speakers one for sub?
What kind of Amp? Does it need to be able to support max or just RMS?
How many channels?
Will sub cover all bass and door speakers jsut cover higher pitch?
If i decide to get another sub later on, will my amp for subs need to be 2 channel?
Okay. Pay absolutely no mind to peak power. RMS is the only thing that matters. 250 watts rms for a subwoofer is not much. But if thats what you want than go for it. You can get two amps. (a four channel amp for the doors and a Mono Amp for the sub) Here is a link to some 5 channel amps that will allow you to power both your sub and door speakers with one amp.

These amps will give you 1 channel for each door speaker and 1 channel for your sub with seperate adjustments(in other words you can turn the bass up on your sub channel without doing the same on you door speaker channels.
The sub will cover the lows (bass)
If you want crisp clear highs go with some tweeters.
