Running light works, brake light and turn signal does not on left tail light.?
I have a 2004 Malibu. Recently I've had some problems with the left tail light. When the car is turned on, the running light works fine. However, the brake light doesn't work and the turn signal does not work (the turn signal for the left head light works, but blinks rapidly). All of the bulbs are fine. Is this a wiring problem? A fuse problem? I have basic knowledge on wiring so I could fix this myself, but I don't know where to start.
When a front turn signal blinks faster on one side than the other it's a good indication that you either have a bad bulb in the rear on the same side that is blinking faster or an open circuit to the rear. If the brake light and turn signal in the rear uses the same bulb/element you may have a bad turn signal switch on the column. I'd replace the bulb first even if it looks OK. Swap it with the other side bulb. If that doesn't work it's time to start testing the wiring from the switch to the rear.
