Im going to put a security camera out in the deer plot and im going to run it on a battery?
Ok so im trying to figure out how to run this camera its 1200 feet so i have a Wireless Camera and a Wired Security Camera and a VCR and i thought about running it off of a car battery with a DC AC converter the wired and Wireless camera dont use much power both use 12 volts but how long would the battery last running the VCR and the camera from the 12 battery
You should have emailed me over the weekend. I am an electronics engineer and designer of solar systems........ you posted the same question on Friday, right?
Add the total watts of the camera and vcr. Watts = voltage * Amps. If you know the voltage (12 volt) and the watts - divide the watts by the voltage to find the amount of current it takes.
Next - what is the effeciency of the DC to AC inverter? This is usually stamped on the outside. Most use 2 amps in the process. It can be as high as 10 amps.
If it takes 5 amps for camera and VCR, and 2 amps to make the inverted work it is a total load of 7 amps. That means a 12 volt battery rated 1500 Amp hours will last about 214 hours or about 9 days at 72 degrees F. You will need to downrate the battery 10% for every drop in temperature of 8 degress.
A car battery is designed to provide instant cranking power - not long term use and drain. A car battery will last maybe 18 hours. What you want is a deep cycle pair of batteries. These take longer to charger, but, hold their charger longer as they discharge.
Go visit a place that sells large solar panel systems, inverters, and equipment. Frequently these places have used deep cycle batteries for $45 to $60 that should work awesome for you (they usually run $350 to $500 new). See, batteries used in Cell phone towers and links are designed to last 15 years - but - these companies change out the battery racks every 4-5 years so they never have to worry. Places that sell these companies the new batteries then sell the old ones to the public at the cost of disposal - you can easily get 10 years out of them.
